Thought for the day
Treat everyone with politeness, even those who are rude to you – not because they are nice, but because you are. (I know it is difficult to follow; but let’s try as much as we can)

Laws in India | UIDAI Act | Aadhaar Card
- Supreme Court has asked the Government of India to withdraw orders making Aadhaar card mandatory.
- Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) Act is not yet passed by the Parliament and hence Aadhaar card has no constitutional validity
- Suppose, this Act is passed by the Parliament, can the Government make it mandatory for passing the Social security scheme benefits or LPG subsidies? The answer is ‘maybe Yes’
- The new Government has to pass the Act and then frame the rules of applicability. Till such time, Aadhaar is Niradhar

General Elections | EVM # 3
- An Electronic Voting Machine consists of two Units – a Control Unit and a Balloting Unit – joined by a five-meter cable. The Control Unit is with the Presiding Officer or a Polling Officer and the Balloting Unit is placed inside the voting compartment. Instead of issuing a ballot paper, the Polling Officer in-charge of the Control Unit will press the Ballot Button. This will enable the voter to cast his vote by pressing the blue button on the Balloting Unit against the candidate and symbol of his choice.
- In case of EVM out of Order | an Officer is put on duty to cover about 10 polling stations on the day of poll. He will be carrying spare EVMs and the out-of-order EVM can be replaced with a new one. The votes recorded until the stage when the EVM went out of order will be safe in the memory of the Control Unit and it will be sufficient to proceed with the polling after the EVM went out of order. It is not necessary to start the poll from the beginning
