Compliance of Non-filers Monitoring System (NMS) for AY 2014-15

Income Tax Department has identified non filers who have done high-value transactions during the Assessment  Year 2014-15 (Financial Year 2014-15) and started sending sms, email in batches with effect from 6th Nov 2015.

Centralised Processing Cell-Compliance Management (CPC-CM) has carried out data analysis to identified non filers about whom specific information was available in various sources such as Annual Information Return (AIR), Centralised Information Branch (CIB), TDS/TCS Statement etc.

Taxpayer who have received such communication just needs to visit the e-filing website and log in with their user-ID and password for the e-filing portal. In case if the taxpayer is not already registered, it may easily get registered. The taxpayer will be provided the information about the third party information received by the ITD.

Below is the email communication received by the non filers for the asst year 2014-15.


Dear Taxpayer,

As per our records, it is observed that you have not filed your Income Tax Return for Assessment Year 2014-15. Please submit your online response as under:

Step 1: Login to e-filing portalLogin to e-filing portal at
Step 2: View Information summaryInformation summary can be viewed under compliance section on the portal. Mention if the information relates to other PAN
Step 3: Upload Return or submit detailsUpload the return on e-filing portal after paying due taxes. If return is already filed, submit details under ‘Filing of Income tax return’ under compliance section. You may keep the printout of submitted response for record.

Non-filers with potential tax liabilities are identified and monitored under Non-filers Monitoring System (NMS). so what if I , I have not filed the tax return ( I am NRI , for AY 2014-2015 my gross income in india ( PF / interest / captial gain ) was around 5L INR. However had some deductions of around 1L under 80C, TDS already paid was around 1L INR. I thought because I did not owe I did not require to file return. However, now I know the limits. But the issue is I have already crossed the timeline / deadline. Please suggest if I shall go ahead and submit the return now. In fact ITD needs to pay me back
