One of my favorite past times is watching dramas. So I thought of writing about drama and theatre through this post.
Gundayana is a popular comedy play in Kannada. It is based on the novel ‘Chakradrushti’ written by well known Kannada author Sri.NarayanaKasturi (popularly known as NaaKasturi). NaaKasturi was born in Travancore and served as a lecturer in Mysore. He also served as the Secretary in Sri Ramakrishna Mission in Mysore. His famous book is ‘Sathyam Sivam Sundaram’, the Life of Satya Sai Baba.
The director: Mr. Joseph, a graduate from Ninasam Theatre Institute, Heggodu. The cast (ten different characters are played by just two actors)
- Ms. Lakshmi Chandrasekhar is one of the prominent theatre personalities in Karnataka. Her husband Prof. B K Chandrashekar was a former minister of Karnataka State.
- Mr.Sundar, a TV artiste and a former employee of RMS, postal department. His wife is also a popular TV artiste Ms.VeenaSundar
Where to watch drama in Bangalore?
Ranga Shankara: One of the finest theatre facilities in Bangalore. It is located at J P Nagar, 2nd Phase.
K H Kala Soudha: You can also visit this facility located at Hanumanthanagar, Bangalore South. Other avenues are Ravindra Kala Kshetra, Alliance Francaise, Jagriti theatre (Whitefield)
Notable points about theatre and drama –
- Normal drama timings are 3.30 pm and 7.30 pm.
- Pre-book your tickets. Normally, good drams run full shows.
- Be on time; late comers won’t be entertained
- Reach early to the theatre and stand in a queue. These theatres have free seating (no seat numbers are given)
- Chose the seats as near to the stage as possible. Unlike in case of movie where you watch from a distance for a better experience, drama is to be watched from close to the stage.
Thought for the day
If you are tired of drama in your life, just quit being the actor
