- CAG’s stand on coal auction has been vindicated,” said Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharaman
The former Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), Vinod Rai estimated a loss of Rs.186000 Crore to the government by wrong allocation of coal blocks. He made this observation in 2012. The then ruling government UPA II rubbished the report that “it is flawed and high presumptive loss figures”
Now, the government is re-allocating the coal blocks. The bidding for the initial lot of 21 coal mines has got an offer of over Rs.80000 Crores. Interestingly, there are 204 blocks to be auctioned. So, this proves the point that the coal scam was real and not a fiction of Mr. Vinod Rai.
Thus, Mr. ACG’s point was right. It is justified. The latest coal auction upholds or asserts or vindicates the stand of CAG.
- Our government will not allow any religious group belonging to majority or minority to incite violence overtly or covertly
Overtly means ‘done openly’ or the aggressive actions taken in full display of the public or openly showing the signs of hatred towards a section of the society or group.
Covertly is exactly opposite of overtly. Covertly means doing something secretly or not openly acknowledging the actions. So the covertly actions are done discreetly or closely.

- Senior AAP leader Yogendra Yadav called it a victory of proverbial David over Goliath
The phrase ‘David over Goliath’ is generally used to refer to a situation in which a small person or organization defeats a larger one in a surprising way.
The story of David and Goliath can be found in First Samuel 17 of the Bible. It tells the story of the giant Goliath, a nine-foot soldier from Gath, who boasted he could beat any individual soldier in the Israelite army. Nobody in the army dared to take him on — except David, a shepherd boy who believed strongly in God. The Goliath of Gath, Philistine warrior is defeated by the young David.
The literary meaning of the story is that great odds can be overcome by underdogs if the motivation is strong enough. If God is on your side, you will win, regardless of the odds against you.

‘Till the cows come home’ (in this context) means for a very long time or until whatever time the opposition comes on board. Which also means ‘wait till an indefinite time’
