There are three Filmfare awards namely Hindi Filmfare Award, Filmfare Award South and Filmfare Award East. Filmfare Award South is an annual event held either at Chennai or at Hyderabad. The award was introduced in 1953 by Times Group to honour both artistic and technical excellence of professionals. Totally, there are ten categories such as best actor, best supporting actor, best music director etc. for each of the four south Indian languages.
National film awards are decided by a panel appointed by Government of India, whereas Filmfare awards are voted by both the public and a committee of experts.
The Filmfare awards were initially referred to as the Clare Awards, named after Clare Mendonca, editor of The Times of India. The 61st Filmfare Award South for 2013 was presented on 12th July 2014 at Chennai.
