As per this Section, those assessees who have taxable Income (after deduction u/s 80C, 80D, etc) not exceeding Rs.5,00,000/-; are eligible for a rebate of Rs.2000/- from their tax liability. In other words, if the taxable income is less than Rs.5 lakhs, you can consider the basic exemption as Rs.2,20,000/- instead of Rs.2,00,000/-
