What are the cons of following social media posts?

YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, or any other media content gives us a lot of knowledge. For some people, maybe enlightenment! It is, indeed, helpful.

Having said that, I find a few disadvantages also.

If you are a singer, dancer, actor, or artist, by watching hundreds of videos on social media, you will get self-doubts and ask yourselves – When will I become like them? Will I be able to reach their levels?

Similarly, if you are a subject expert or a professional, or businessman or a mentor, looking at the quality of presentations, communication, and the depth of knowledge shown in some of the videos, you will be discouraged. Will I ever have an opportunity among so many stalwarts?

It is human nature to get such questions, nothing wrong with it.

But the issue is – whether the world produced such people, only in the last few years say, after social media gained its prominence?

The talent was there in the past as well. Thanks to the world without the internet and social media, we were ignorant about the existence of these highly skilled people and the present-day stars of social media!

This ignorance helped, people like us to do whatever we could and reach wherever we are today. I am afraid, had we watched these videos or materials during our younger days, our growth would have stopped halfway! Sincerely, it is so demotivating to watch so much content and know about the never-ending achievements of others!

I feel, especially, younger folks should stop or rarely watch the contents on social media which intimidate them, demoralizes them, or question their abilities. If others are better than us, so what?  Sometimes I feel, benchmarking or a reference point is not a good prescription for one’s growth.  Instead, focus on what one is good at. I feel everyone has his role to play and has his place in this world.
