Today’s article is my 100th Morning Post. Hundred has its own importance in every field. On this occasion, let me write about 100!
- For a teacher, if all the students pass in X standard, he will be very happy about ‘Cent Per Cent’ results.
- When their child scores 100 marks, parents proudly say “My son has scored centum”
- The producer celebrates 100 days of his movie show
- TV shows/serials celebrate on completing 100 episodes
- If an individual lives for 100 years, he will be called as centenarian (Shathayushiin Kannada) and he gains a special respect in the society.
- If an organization completes 100 years, they celebrate as ‘Diamond Jubilee’
- If all the tickets (100%) for an event are sold, it is called as ‘houseful’
- In cricket, when a batman scores 100, it is called as ‘century’
- Forbes magazine lists the top 100 wealthiest people in the world and/or in India
Some of the notable people who have completed 100 years age are –
Dr. Sree Sree Sree Shivakumara Swamiji is the head of Sree Siddaganga Mutt in Tumkur. He was born in 1907. Swamiji is known for his contribution to the society; the gurukul of Sree Mutt houses more than 8500 children, who are provided free food, education and shelter.
Prof G Ventakasubbaiah is a Kannada writer, teacher and researcher. He is a lexicographer who has completed over 100 dictionaries.He is regarded as the father of modern Kannada dictionary.
Other important things about 100 –
- Yesterday (28th July), 100 years ago, the First World War started!!
- Indian cinema celebrated its 100th year (started in 1913)
- United States Senate has 100 senators
- Currencies are divided into 100 subunits; one pound is 100 pence and one euro is one hundred cents
- 100 is the telephone number of police
