Laws | Act # 17 | Whistle-blowers Protection Act
- This act is passed by Lok Sabha in 2011 and by Rajya Sabha in 2014 and received the President’s assent on 9th May 2014.
- This law is to protect anyone who exposes alleged wrongdoings such as fraud, corruption or mismanagement by the people in public life, bureaucracy, etc. This law also has provisions to punish people for false and frivolous complaints.
- There are multiple instances of threatening, harassment and even murder of various whistle-blowers. Some of the notable instances are the murder of Satyendra Dubey (2003- Highway project), S Manjunath (2005- taking on oil mafia)
