Why Politicians don’t retire?

A 52-year-old politician calls himself a young; youth leader. A 75-year-old politician draws his career plan for the next 10 years. A 90 years old person is getting ready to contest the next general election which is 2 years away from now. None of the politicians retire, but they send their team (government employees) home at 58 or 60 years!

Look at the corporate world. Rarely does a CEO, MD, or Chairman retire from their post? If retirement is inevitable, they create a post called the Chairman Emeritus and stay put in the job.

A 75-year-old doctor is operating on a 60-year-old, retiree! An 80-year-old advocate is arguing the cases on the most modern topics like metaverse, crypto, and spectrums.

If you analyze, rarely do these people die early. Have you heard any of these people take leave on account of health reasons? Generally, no.

On the other hand, people who retire at 58 or 60 years, will suffer from many ailments.  Alzheimer’s, Dementia, Parkinson’s, Knee Pain, and Ankle problem are reserved for these people. The majority of the retirees spend their time in hospital or health management or die earlier than politicians!

Why so? Do the politicians or businessmen or professionals work beyond 60 for money? The answer is no. The reasons for their good health and longevity are PEOPLE!

You can try this. Speak to some of the old people, and ask about their wish lists. Among others, one common wish every senior citizen will have is that they want to talk. They want people around them. The days they speak to some people, they will be very happy. As one grows old, the one thing most required is the company of people with whom they can converse. (Engaging with the seniors could be a good startup idea!)

Is retiring a bad idea? Can’t say. The majority of the working class has to retire by compulsion. But once they retire, they have to engage themselves in some activity, say part-time or full time; private or public; consulting or counseling, teaching or learning, work for money or otherwise at an NGO or Trust or Mutt, anywhere and anything is fine as long as it adds to one’s pleasure and not the pressure!  The most suitable job or vocation is one where you get to meet many people, possibly new faces regularly.

When the mind is busy, it fails to notice the ailments in the body, and thus, one can live long.  (Is it correct scientifically or philosophically? I don’t know, but my common sense says so!)

Sitting idle is a curse. To keep our life drama on, one should be active, irrespective of age. Let us not rust till we Rest in Peace!

Happy Weekend

Sir, It is true that sitting idle is a big curse; and when we keep our minds busy by engaging ourselves in any activity like writing or noting down our experiences or guiding others may allow us to ignore the bodily ailments.
