Can we eat Gold?

Is Gold edible? We, the middle-class society always used to grumble about the wealthy people saying that ‘they may have Golden plates, but can they eat gold? They also have to eat rice only’ ‘You may be rich or powerful, in the end, you have to eat food only!’ Do you remember this kind of conversation with family and friends?

A few years back, when ED and IT raids took place in someone’s residence, they found plates, cots, and chairs made of gold! It was big news. Then we said, ‘what is the use of such wealth, he has to eat in aluminum plates now’ Remember this at least?

Friends, humans can eat Gold. A few days back, in one of the sweets shops of Bangalore, I saw a banner “Gold Pista Burfi, made of Pista, Kesar, Ghee, Sugar, and Edible 24 Karat Gold” and Silver Badam Burfi, made of Badam, Kesar, Ghee, Sugar and Edible Silver Gold sweets costs Rs.23,500 per kg and Silver Sweets costs Rs.3,300 per kg.

This is news to me (and for many of you, am I right?).  What an idea Sirji! Now the wealthy can print on the wedding invitation card (sorry, no more cards, they are big booklets!) that gold and silver sweets are part of the menu!

Those who conduct weddings in Palace Grounds (or similar swanky destinations), who ‘hardly work but highly earn’ can serve golden sweets, and their chelas, chamchas, juniors, assistants can serve silver sweets! Someone may serve Iron Ore sweets in the future! Well, the hard-working middle class like me, will continue to serve Laddoo, holige and payasam made of grains!  Happy eating.
